Mod Description

The Latest Update

  • Configurable land value cap and rent cap.
  • Add switches for the mod's three major function.

Function

  • Set a global and configurable upper bound for land value. Land value of the city will stop rising when hitting this limit. This function can be turned off via a configuration entry.
  • Set a configurable upper bound for rent. The per-family rent cap of residential properties and per-building rent cap of non-residential ones are separately configurable. This function can be turned off via a configuration entry.
  • Building upgrading is now faster. This function can be turned off via a configuration entry.
    • The upkeep of a building now has no negative impact on its level-up progress.
    • Maxrent, instead of rent, now contributes to the building's level-up progress.
    • According to the underlying game mechanism, only the rent pushes a building's level-up progress, and the building upkeep and its garbage processing fee blocks it. If you set the land value cap or the rent cap to very low value, it is strongly recommended to turn this function on, or the building's level-up progress will instantly drop to a negative value and you will find those buildings being quickly abandoned by your citizens.

Configuring the Setting

  • First launch the game with this mod loaded, and close the game (to generate the configuration file).
  • Open the configuration file (..\Cities Skylines II\BepInEx\config\LandValueCap.cfg), modify each configuration entries and save the file.
  • Now launch the game again with this mod loaded and enjoy it!

Installation

  • Two versions of this mod is provided:
    • LandValueCap_b5.dll:Full mod for BepInEx5
    • LandValueCap_b6.dll:Full mod for BepInEx6
  • Choose one of the four files and put it into ...\Cities Skylines II\BepInEx\plugins\

Disclaimer

  • This mod has not been fully tested yet. You may still encounter terrible possibilities such as game crashes and broken saves. Please use at your own risk.
  • This mod is balance-breaking and lowers the game difficulty.
  • This mod theoretically has no impact on the original game except for its land value, rent, and building level systems. If something weird happens in game, carefully read the mod description again. The low land value or the rent should be its root cause.

Released

  • Fix a MAJOR BUG causing overflow in building upgrade progress when rent upgrade factor is extremely large(1.0.6.5)
  • Add numerical upper and lower bound for the configurable factors of this mod(1.0.6.5):
    • land value cap must > 0.
    • Other factors must > 0 and < 100.

  • Fix a MAJOR BUG that causes game crashes after setting up new buildings in a new game.(1.0.6.3)
  • Fix a bug that consistently causes storage buildings being abandoned.(1.0.6.2)
  • Fix a bug causing the true value of rent remain unchanged. (1.0.6.1)
  • 1.0.6 major update contents:
    • Default value of land value cap is now 120,000 instead of 6,000
    • The rent cap is removed. Instead, two modifiers are added to control the rent payment mechanism:
      • Rent payment factor: controls how much% of the original rent is actually payed by residents and companies. The actually rent payed = original rent * rent payment factor. Disable this function by setting this factor to 1. The default configuration is 0.25.
      • Rent upgrade factor: controls how much% of the original rent is actually addedto the building upgrade progress. The actually progress added= original rent * rent upgrade factor. Disable this function by setting this factor to 1. The default configuration is 1.
    • The fast upgrade function is removed. Instead, two modifiers are added to control the building upgrade mechanism:
      • Building upkeep factor: controls how much% of the original building upkeep is actually subtracted from the building upgrade progress. The actually building upkeep = original upkeep * building upkeep factor. Disable this function by setting this factor to 1. The default configuration is 1.
      • Garbage fee factor: controls how much% of the original garbage fee is actually subtracted from the building upgrade progress. The actually garbage fee = original garbage fee * garbage fee factor. Disable this function by setting this factor to 1. The default configuration is 1.
  • Tips about the game's building upgrading mechanism
    • The building upgrade progress is the building's landlord.
    • Only the rent promotes the building upgrade progress.
    • Only the building upkeep and the garbage processing fee reduce the same progress.
    • When the upgrade progress > the corresponding upgrade cost, the building gets upgraded
    • When the upgrade progress < -the corresponding upgrade cost, the building gets abandoned
  • Tips about the game's rent mechanism
    • The rent value rises with the land value, but not determined by it. Many other factors affects the rent, such as the building level and city services.
    • Storage companies are not affected by the rent. Their landlords (upgrade progress) afford their profits and losses.
    • How high rent causes abandoned buildings: High rent→renters cannot affort→renters move away→landlords receive insufficient rent→landlords go backrupt→building abandoned
  • Guidelines on configurating different factors:
    • To ensure that citizens/companies can affort their rent: lower land value cap and lower the rent payment factor.
    • To speed up building upgrade/prevent building abandon: lower land value cap, increase the rent upgrade factor, lower the building upkeep factor and lower the garbage fee factor.
  • When upgrading from below 1.0.6 to 1.0.6.x, please delete the old version and its corresponding configuration file. Game saves are not affected, but how the way thid mod alters game mechanisms has changed, you may experience unsmooth transitions between two mod versions. If any, running your city for several minutes and everything comes back again.
